Ladders
Vertical
or near vertical fixed access ladders should only be installed
where occasional access or means of escape is required and should
be provided with safety cages or fall arrest systems where the
rise exceeds 2.3m.
Step Ladders provide an improved means of access, but generally
the vertical rise should not exceed 3.0m.
Where
it is necessary for operatives to carry tools or equipment it
is always advisable to introduce a staircase for permanent access.
